Mauguio-Carnon is the gateway to the Petite Camargue, opening the way to an incredible landscape between land and sea, with the fabulous Or lagoon at its centre. This is an exceptional natural landscape spread over 8,500 hectares of plain and 7kms of dunes and beaches. Add to this the rich heritage of Mauguio and you have an outstanding coastal destination.
Carnon : A fashionable resort since the 19th century
This small resort opened in the wake of the creation of seaside spa towns from 1859. The links with Montpellier and its ferry linking the left and right banks helped develop the town. The leisure port was built during the 1970s. Carnon, quickly became a popular resort and today it still retains the charm of a traditional village.
Mauguio : A town full of history
The historic heart of Mauguio takes you on a journey into its rich past. A 'must' is the Jardin de la Motte; a feudal mount which was first constructed circa 960 and upon which sits the castle (currently under restoration). The historic centre holds rows of houses with beautiful architectural features, wash houses etc. These numerous traces of history can be explored by following a pavement 'trail'.
