The ruins of the Bassanel oppidum (hill-town), dating back to the sixth century BC, prove that Olonzac has been inhabited since Neolithic times. Take your time wandering around this circular town and you'll discover some beautiful houses, the covered market, a modern church built in the Gothic style, and the ancient walls ... If you are interested in archaeology you'll enjoy a visit to the museum, which houses a collection of objects from the Paleolithic, Neolithic, Iron Age, and Roman period. Or you could just take it easy and relax in the verdant surroundings. On Tuesday mornings the town is bustling with its typical market, one of the busiest in the region. Stalls all over town display a huge choice of tempting local produce. Known as the small business capital of the Minervois, Olonzac is also a wonderful place for walks and hikes. The perfect base for exploring the Cathar country and the Haut-Languedoc Regional Nature Park.
