TERRA HOMINIS : vwine, humanity and rugby

To preserve the diversity of winegrowers and terroirs, to help one generation pass on its knowledge to the next and to protect the environment in a spirit of sharing and conviviality. Standing apart as a young leader in the wine sector in Rouen by 2010, Ludovic Aventin felt too confined within his wine cellar... He already saw far and wide. An entrepreneur and rabid rugby fan, he took a calculated risk in 2011 when he moved to Biterrois, the land of rugby! Once there, he developed his generous concept into a fully independent company named Terra Hominis. His idea: to work in co-ownership with others who were passionate about making wine, preserving the terroir and respecting the environment while throwing in a large dose of humanity by structuring a deal to make agricultural land available to young winegrowers.

On the shale-rich soils of AOP Faugères, in the Haut Languedoc Nature Reserve, his dream became a reality. Ludovic and his initial partners began their adventure by forming Domaine Montgros. The young company owners enjoyed meeting up to celebrate the harvest and to take long winegrowers' walks together. They were compensated for their financial investment only with bottles of wine. An original idea! Yes, it was, and above all, an effective one!

Since then, Terra Hominis has grown exponentially. Today, there are some 3,600 partners who have carried out 47 projects in Languedoc, Roussillon, Médoc and Cognac with solid values: sharing, conviviality and passing on knowledge. On average, a land entity called a GFA brings together 110 partners, with a nominal share price of €1,300. It offers a win-win concept where the winegrower is relieved of all financial concerns regarding the purchase of land so he is free to devote himself to the autonomous operation of the vineyard under a rental system that produces excellent wines, while also preserving essential know-how.

Having proven a successful economic and societal model, today new projects are making great strides on the terroirs of La Clape and Saint-Chinian, as well as on the side of Gaillac.

As part of their ongoing quest of finding more ways to enjoy wine, "Epicurian" tasting clubs have been springing up in Béziers, Montpellier, Perpignan and more. Terra Hominis… Rugby forever!
