Located at the foot of the Caroux, Colombières-sur-Orb, the birthplace of Jean-Claude Carrière, lovers of wild landscapes and gourmets. Before setting out to explore the canyons, warm up by taking a path leading to a 12th to 14th century square watchtower at the so-called Battut, the only remains of an old Caroz castle; A magnificent site where Albine threw herself into the void.
The Colombières and Héric Canyons: A great escape
Waterfalls, arid lands, forests ... the great diversity of landscapes and the wild character of the Colombières Canyons make it an exceptional place for hiking and relaxing. In terms of hiking, the more athletic types may tackle a 15-kilometre trail that veers away from the usual canyon swimming spots. Old cave dwellings pop up along the climbing trail as do "cupules" stones ... up until the La Fage Plateau with its sweeping views of all the foothills rising above an ancient Roman road. A journey rich in curiosities, but ... watch out for steep slopes! Those who prefer to take it easy will find many nearby and easily accessible swimming spots in the canyons.
If you push up to the Héric Canyons, a classified natural site, you will come across waterfalls, gulfs and natural pools that make favourite summer swimming holes. For a comfortable family walk (3 hours round trip), there is a path that allows you to readily return to the charming hamlet of Héric with its stone houses with slate-covered roofs.
Two breath-taking kinds of scenery which, everyone will agree, offer pure enchantment.
