Let time stand still and take the time to explore the traces of history. You will meet the Cabreta (goat), the town’s animal mascot, the local shops and artisans with their savoir-faire, and the market which fills every Friday with colour.
You can also explore the church of Saint André, with its fortified construction which sets the tone for Montagnac’s story. Whether in its details or its monumental form, the church is fixed in the town’s history and future. Montagnac’s royal connections can be seen in the Hôtel de Brignac townhouse. A painted ceiling dating to the 15th century is one of the most beautiful in the Languedoc. In the same street, the Hôtel de Philippe de Rat features a monumental portal crowned with a ‘broken’ pediment. The adjoining townhouse has a richly decorated doorway, with cherubs, and vine tracery in the wood tympanum. The facade of the Hôtel de Pégat in rue Montbel has conserved its mullion windows dating from the 15th century
The earliest courtyard staircase in the Languedoc, dating to 1587, can be seen at number 27, rue Malirat.
You can discover all the other architectural features and history of the town during the guided visits organised by the Maison de la Culture et du Patrimoine or by visiting the Espace de Vins.
Because there, another story awaits you, the story of Montagnac’s wine growers.
