1000 years of architecture are captured in the stonework in Vézénobres!
Perched on a rocky outcrop, it's one of France's Character Villages - dominating the garrigue scrubland to one side and the Gardons plain to the other, with the Cévennes mountains in the background.
A major stop on the ancient trade and pilgrimage Régordane route, Vézénobres offers a maze of narrow streets and picturesque stairways leading up to breathtaking views.
For many years the village's economy was based on drying figs and the Fig Orchard Conservatory (similar to the National Botanical Conservatory of Porquerolles) pays homage to this tradition: it has about 1,000 trees and a hundred different varieties.
Two special events pay tribute to this emblematic Mediterranean fruit: the Figoulade, a fig producers' and products' market in August and the Mediterranean Fig Days, in October.
