Olargues' history is as varied as the surrounding landscape. It was invaded by the Romans, the Vandals, and the Wisigoths at different points in time. Yet the most unforgettable event was the complete destruction of the village in 1629 under the orders of Cardinal Richelieu during the religious wars. In the 18th and 19 th centuries it became, once again, a place bustling with life.
