The city Uzès is an ancient Roman Military Camp that was long ago home to important dukes and duchesses. Its architecture is extremely well conserved. Some highlights are the Fenestrelle Tower, a medieval masterpiece, the 18th century city hall with its iron decorated balcony facing the Duke’s place, and the Place aux Herbes with medieval houses built upon arches. On the circular avenue, don’t miss the St. Etienne Church and its medieval clock tower. Enjoy a walk along the narrow road while appreciating the architectural treasures. There are many Renaissance, Baroque, and Classical Style mansions that line the streets. In the heart of the city admire the Vigie Tower, the Octagonal Bermonde Tower, and a rectangular donjon integrated into the city’s fortifications that was used during the 9th century. Take a stroll along the chestnut tree lined Jean Racine Promenade, admire the views of the Eure Valley and the Duke’s Park, visit the Baron de Castille’s House and marvel at the famous 18th century facade. Uzès is a land of history, but also culinary arts. The numerous restaurants will delight your taste buds.
